What’s in your freezer?

Our freezer is stuffed. The freezer in the refrigerator is stuffed, mostly with the blueberries. In our freezers right now, we have

  • 30 lbs. Maine shrimp
  • 25 lbs chicken
  • 10 lbs pork
  • 5 lbs beef
  • 70 lbs strawberries
  • 40 lbs wild Maine blueberries
  • 9.5 lbs blackberries
  • 11.5 lbs highbush blueberries (ours)
  • 4 quarts cauliflower
  • 6 pints Swiss chard
  • 3 pints frozen corn
  • 24 cubes frozen pesto (frozen in ice cube trays)
  • ice cream maker bowl

Chicken from Dan’s farmer colleague, pork from my pal Warren, and locally raised/grazed beef will be arriving this fall, and of course we’ll be adding (I hope!) beans, broccoli and other treats from the garden. Yikes! The little 10 cubic foot freezer we’ve been using for the past 3 years is just not big enough. So yesterday, we bought a new one. We transferred the contents of the small freezer today, but the 40 lbs of blueberries are still jammed in the other freezer. There is something very reassuring about having put food by for the winter.

I should say your larder is amply supplied. :) Kudos to you, that’s a lot of work. But the rewards are worth it.

Fantastic! I would say that purchase was made just in time. Looks like you got another upright.

That is great. I hope to have a freezer looking more like yours in the future.

I am VERY jealous of your freezer capacity!!!

Mine is a mess of frozen green beans, zucchini, summer squash, chicken, sausage, peas, tomatoes, blackberries, pork, pesto, frozen herb (all kinds), corn on the cob, cabbage, breadcrumbs, rib eyes, strip steaks, hot dogs and sandwich meat.

I am sure I forgot a few things.

I would be ashamed to show mine because it needs a defrost bad.
